Below is our recent interview with Gary Rieschick, VP of Business Development at Awnix:

Q: Could you tell us something more about the company and what you do?

A: Awnix is a leading provider of secure private cloud and edge computing technologies, managed services, and support with one primary goal—enabling our partners, clients, and customers to access a true emporium of compute solutions.

Awnix was founded in 2014 with a mission statement that said, “Be the company that we could never find.” This statement has been the driving force behind Awnix since then and is the foundation of our tagline, “Simplification as a Service.” This philosophy defines our company culture–always provide products and services that are the best, most efficient, and most cost-effective, and to deploy and support them in a way that accelerates each project towards the business or mission goal. By embracing this culture, we simplify the process for our customers and partners.

This philosophy enables us to attract some of the best talent from the Tier-1 Telecommunications and Cable Service Providers, and from the U.S. Military and Government sector. Our Cloud Engineers and Architects have decades of experience building, deploying, and managing unique and complex platforms and systems to support a multitude of business and mission needs. No project, goal, or requirement is outside our capabilities. We assist in the entire process of Cloud design, from requirements analysis, architecture design, build, configuration, deployment, support, and 24×365 managed services.

We have provided Cloud platform(s) infrastructure, products, and services to the U.S. Military, U.S. Federal Government, a manufacturer of large industrial machinery, a commercial multi-tenant hosting company, and two of the top four Tier-1 telecommunications service providers in the U.S. Examples of some of the projects that utilize our products and services include IoT (“Internet of Things”) for; “smart bases,” “smart buildings,” Internet sensor data collection and analysis for zero-day threat profiling, geo-location data collection and analysis, and NOSC (“network operations and security center”) services.

Our Cloud products are delivered as turn-key appliances, ready to run, built to spec, and fully supported. These products scale in size from half-rack to hundreds of racks, utilize modern Cloud architectures for security, multi-tenancy, high throughput, low latency, and nearly infinitely scalable resources.

Our Edge product, Kudzu™, is designed to provide a true edge computing node. Kudzu comes with GPU and CPU processing to enable AI/ML at the edge. Additionally, Kudzus have the ability to self-cool which means they don’t require environmentally controlled locations like Data Centers. Kudzu is already in trials at major tier 1 Telcos and Silicon Valley tech companies that do analytics at the edge.

Q: What do you think is the future of Cloud?

A: Cloud solutions, public or private, will continue to have tremendous value to the market. As customers continue to get more familiar with the differences in public versus private cloud offerings, we will see a shift to more private clouds. This is largely based on cost, security and frankly having control of your data. Public cloud providers are constantly in the news for losing data and/or having major security issues.

The most exciting area of cloud is how IoT is driving for more distribution of cloud computing resources–edge computing. As IoT continues to ramp up, a fair percentage of the cloud market will move to the edge market, which is where we’ve been focused on growing our business the last two to three years.

Q: Aren’t private clouds expensive? Who needs a private cloud?

A: Public clouds are actually more expensive. The pricing models are designed to look inexpensive, but are, in reality, the opposite.

A private cloud gives you more control; of cost, real security and so much more. And with Awnix’s private cloud, you have access to 24/7 support, 365 days a year.

Private makes people think “custom,” which is sometimes the case, however, there are also standardized private cloud products. Here, we treat custom as the norm, especially because it’s a set, flat fee, regardless of usage. Customers know what they are getting into from the beginning, and don’t get any surprises when the bill comes for the month.

Cloud and edge computing are rapidly growing technologies, and the short answer is that everybody needs it. Industrial, medical, legal, retail, smart cities, IoT— compute infrastructure is vital to the operations, growth, security, and relevance of all of these industries and many others.

Affordable and fair pricing is our goal for our cloud and edge services. Which means small to enterprise-sized businesses can take advantage of a secure private cloud products.

Q: What makes you stand out from your competition?

A: We simplify business data: Awnix is at the forefront of cloud, edge and IoT technology. We have a highly trained, focused team. Security and defense are a priority on every build and in every software. Our backup and restore software are unparalleled. We offer fair prices and build systems that you can control – your system is non-proprietary so our customers don’t deal with “vendor lockin.”

Awnix is about “Build. Service. Defend.” We architect (Build) cloud and edge products, provide 24/7/365 support (Service), and develop all our products and services to be certifiably secure (Defend).

One of our biggest differentiators is our high touch managed services and customer support which takes the burden off of our customers so they can focus on their core business, which we refer to as “Ticket Destruction.”

Awnix was founded by two ex-government data center architects. Their focus is always on security. The levels of security built into an Awnix private cloud are unparalleled, a vital importance with government, finance and healthcare customers. We have yet to see another cloud or edge product company have the kind of security that we have built into our products.

We’ve mentioned cost several times in this interview and there’s a reason for it: Awnix utilizes market leading open source software and non-proprietary hardware. The results are that customers get proven technologies used by the likes of NASA (e.g. OpenStack), but the lower cost of FOSS (Free Open Source Software).

Our goal is to create a seamless partnership with our customers. We want them to see us as an extension of their business.

Q: What can we expect from Awnix in the future?

A: Great question. Awnix has put significant resources into our edge compute product line, Kudzu. We are having a lot of success in this emerging market and that will be a key part of our growth strategy.

At the same time, we have a reputation of having some of the brightest engineers working on private cloud solutions, so we will continue to deliver on our roadmap in this area. Simply put, Awnix is focused on furthering our “emporium of computing” products and solutions while keeping our focus on making our customers successful with their core business.
