GenieBelt

GenieBelt provides real-time project management, insights and overview for the construction industry. It has been around for four years and the company has headquarters located in Copenhagen, Denmark with offices in the UK and Poland. Below is our recent interview with Anastasios Koutsogiannis, from GenieBelt:

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to GenieBelt?

A: GenieBelt specializes in scheduling and connectivity between office and site. Available on desktop, both Android and iOS (iPad and iPhone). Overall, it’s quite simple, easy-to-use and money-saving construction software solution you can start your project with.

Q: Why do we need a change in the construction industry?

A: Construction is a $10tr industry with immense potential for further expansion during the next years and decades. Nevertheless, the building sector battles against tremendous productivity problems on a global scale.

According to some recent statistics, provided by McKinsey & Company, the industry’s IT spent is only 1%. The only sectors with lower digitization index are agriculture and hunting. Furthermore, the incredibly low efficiency rate in construction projects is another troubling issue. More specifically, wrench time in construction can reach up to 30%, while the productivity growth rate keeps declining by 0.3% on average year after year.

And that’s not all! At the moment, the rework rate in the global building sector is 30%. It goes without saying that inefficient communication is one of the most decisive factors behind this problematic situation. Lastly, waste management is another source of pain for the building industry. Based on reports by Eurostat, 34.7% of Europe’s waste is coming from construction.

The above numbers reveal some of the most essential problems that the industry is facing. We believe that there is a strong need for transparency and accountability. On top of that, construction should learn to take better care of its data. Only when we will be able to open up our processes, share data and project experience with other ambitious players from the industry and create an inclusive and integrating ecosystem we can increase efficiency and productivity in the sector.

Q: What is the best thing about home building software that people might not know about?

A: Home building software can provide people who work in a project with remarkable help when it comes to the way the members of a team communicate and collaborate with each other. In my opinion, home building software is very helpful and special because it allows all project stakeholders to stay on the right page. It may sound like a cliche but truth is that this is the basis for a successful building project.

In that way, you can save both time and money. No need for pointless reworks or time-consuming meetings and project disputes. And all these simply because there is good communication and by extension proactive collaboration between the different project parties.

Moreover, as technology progresses and data become a strong component of the building process, the automation of many tasks can contribute to the optimization and acceleration of the whole project. We have already seen some brave steps toward this direction. Without doubt, the BIM mandate and the new infrastructure performance programme in the UK is a powerful example.

Q: Can you give us insights into GenieBelt’s features?

A: Our software is based on three fundamental pillars:
a) Improvement of collaboration between the different project teams
b) Simple problem detection
c) Data driven decision-making

It becomes clear, then, that our goal is to help construction stakeholders take full control of their project. And to achieve this, we have invested in the following features:
a) Real-time project management: You can get instant updates about any project changes and connect easily with your team. Mobile field reporting is another extremely powerful tool and allows people working on site connect with those back in the office. Simply put, better collaboration means faster project progress.
b) Overview and insights: Live project overviews and insight across different tasks and projects can be an indispensable feature for those who have to manage more than one building projects at once. Assets such as automatically generated weather reports, site diaries and audit trail can also be extremely helpful.
c) Integrations: We believe in strategic partnerships and in that sense, we have invested a lot of effort in integrations. In that manner, we can connect to existing systems and make GenieBelt the backbone of your construction process.

Q: What is on the roadmap for GenieBelt moving forward?

A: In GenieBelt there is strong passion to open up the construction process and deliver improved margins through effective collaboration and by enriching our team with ambitious and talented personnel to take the next steps forward.

We also want to add new areas through an ecosystem approach (i.e. integrations) and establish GenieBelt as the digital backbone of a business. All in all, we could say that our ultimate goal is to offer a smart and versatile solution to help our customers identify and manage any problems that they may encounter while working on their project.
