Below is our recent interview with Patrick Aylmer, the Founder and Director at Learning People:
Q: Could you tell us your story and something more about Learning People?
A: Learning People was created out of a need for more flexible, world-class training to be accessible for everybody; no matter your age or where you’re currently standing in your career.
Traditional education isn’t serving students as successful as it once did. Students need more than just training; they need support and guidance through their education and careers. Online learning has grown at an exponential rate in recent times, with Learning People leading the way.
University degree applications are gradually decreasing year on year, due to the cost and time they take to obtain. Even with a degree, employers look for more from prospective team members. We have opened ourselves to being the best university alternative for digital marketing, IT, cyber security, project management and coding.
The skills gap within the tech industry is a global problem affecting businesses around the world, in varying industries. In the UK alone, it is estimated that the digital skills gap is costing the economy an estimated £63 billion a year in the lost potential for additional GDP.
Our mission has always been to do more than simply sell online training courses. We will always work towards guiding and supporting our students to achieve their career goals through world-class, online training. Our courses will always be flexible to fit around their schedules with payment plans to ensure each course is attainable for everyone. As a result, the skills gap will benefit and businesses will thrive with fully-trained team members on board.
Q: What inspired you to start working on Learning People?
A: We owe it to ourselves to be the best and most knowledgeable professionals we can be. Training with us is all about doing just that; achieving your goals and living your best life.
My continued passion for learning and development motivated me to start the Learning People. I want to empower people with real-world skills and expertise that employers are looking for through career-ready tech courses.
We take our students goals seriously by listening to their ambitions and tailoring their education accordingly. This allows them to get the skills needed to be a knowledgeable and successful professional in digital marketing, IT, cyber security, coding or project management.
Q: What advantage does your company have over its competitors?
A: We are real people that care about what happens to our students throughout their journey with us. We have award-winning Career Consultants and StudentCareTM team that works closely with each student to ensure the successful completion of the career-ready courses. We offer one-to-one personal guidance to support our students as they venture towards their new or expanded careers.
With technology evolving at an exponential pace, what drives us is this key question: will enough people be aligned with the changeable skills needed in the tech world? We believe a double-sided understanding is key to answer this. On the one hand, our focus is to deeply understand our student’s goals and appreciate their potential. On the other, our aim is to ensure we align with the constantly shifting skills gap in the tech industry. Ultimately, it’s our mission to get everyone in the tech industry aligned.
We’re not here to simply sell courses; we’re here to personally and proactively navigate our students through the intricate job market. We want to enable them to pursue a career that they’ll thrive in, making them feel confident in achieving their careers goals, whilst simultaneously fulfilling a need in the industry. This is why we’ve partnered with the world’s leading job boards and recruiters.
Through years of establishing ourselves as tech career experts we have many exclusive partnerships with globally renowned training bodies and institutions; such as EC-Council, we are the exclusive reseller of their GCHQ accredited Certified Ethical Hacking course.
Our courses are accredited by and approved from within the market. With industry giants such as Nasa, BT and Visa implementing our training courses across their businesses to upskill their employees.
Q: You have recently received a $2.5M investment, please can you tell us more about this?
A: Talis Capital is a venture capital firm that has invested in Learning People. This investment will aid us in our geographical expansion, the development of an engaging, user-centric platform and also the creation of innovative products for both individual and corporate clients.
We are excited to partner with Talis, whose expertise in the tech space will be invaluable as we seek to build out our business and further develop our B2B offering. SkillsFox has seen Learning People enter into a space in which we are convinced we can provide invaluable services to employers; allowing them to upskill and retain talent whilst increasing productivity across the workforce.
With £2.2 billion a year being wasted due to the lack of skilled tech workers in the UK alone, it’s never been a more critical time for both individuals and businesses to get necessary and up-to-date digital training.

Q: Do you have any new features in the pipeline? What are your plans?
A: We are continuing with our geographical expansion and developments, with our new office in New Zealand recently up and running as part of this global growth. We now have offices in England, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, with plans to grow in America soon.
We are constantly working to improve what we offer to our students, with more exclusive partnerships in the pipeline. It’s important to us that we connect with new initiatives and like-minded businesses that we can partner with to benefit our students.
We recently announced our exclusive membership with BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. When students enrol on our IT courses, they’ll automatically be accepted as a member of BCS free of charge. This membership allows them to connect with other IT professionals around the world, tap into the latest innovations and grow their network along with a number of other incredible benefits.
Our continued partnerships with institutions like EC-Council and The Code Institute enables us to stay ahead of the curve within the tech industry and continue providing the best possible training and opportunities for our students.
