Below is our recent interview with Joe Liu, CEO at Mivatek:

Joe Liu

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to Mivatek Smart Connect?

A: Mivatek provides a patented, auto-configured DIY connected-system with an interactive and collaborative video-IoT mobile-cloud for service providers’ automation, energy and comprehensive MIY protection controls. That is a bit technical, so we can explain it this way: Mivatek Smart Connect has developed a B2B2C, cloud-based, Highly Managed Video-IoT platform that allows a wide range of businesses and enterprises – such as telecom companies, service providers, ISP’s, brand owners, even HOA’s (Homeowners Associations) – to create interactive systems for Smart Home, Smart Care, Smart Business, even Smart Community. Using our mobile-cloud as a foundation, companies can create interactive systems using connected devices or devices of their own choosing.

In doing so, we are providing these companies with a tool that lets them offer their customers value-added services that they want and demand. It’s a win-win situation: the company leverages premises’ things and data, creating happier, more loyal customers while generating additional sources of revenue. And the customer gets the convenience, safety and security of the most advanced connected solutions and service.

We are headquartered in Fremont, CA, own a major facility in Taipei, Taiwan, and have over almost 100 employees worldwide.

Q: You’ve recently announced partnership with Asia Pacific Telecom; could you tell us something more?

A: Mivatek Smart Connect recently announced the signing of a partnership agreement withAsia Pacific Telecom (APT), whereby APT will use Mivatek Smart Connect’s plug-n-play Smart Home solutions and service. Mivatek’s mobile-cloud Video-IoT platform and smart devices will form the foundation of APT’s Home Guardian program – a leading DIY MIY Smart Home & Business service available to 1.9 million APT’s customers. The new APT Home Guardian program is the company’s first offering in the smart home arena.

Home Guardian provides APT customers with a turnkey video-integrated interactive security, safety, and wellness service solution. Each system package gives users advanced “one-touch-to-responder” features that allow them to make video-integrated protection and control with family, wherever they are. The collaborative protection design allows the user, their family members, caregivers, even friends and neighbors to protect their homes and achieve peace of mind. The mobile-app also covers 10+ Eco-system partners’ smart device control.

There are three in-a-box starter packages available to APT customers with various levels of functionality. Ultimately, these packages cover the areas that APT believes will bring their customers the most peace of mind: home security and safety; care of elderly to allow them to live independently and safely in their own homes as long as possible (the “aging in place” trend); and the care and safety of infants and pets.

Q: What are some of the business drivers behind your growth?

A: Certainly, the increased focus on safety and security is a primary driver. These are the concerns which drive connected-home adoption more than any other area. Another significant catalyst is connected health, specifically the aging-in-place trend. As more and more seniors look to remain in their homes as long as they can, the need for technological assistance to ensure their safety and independence grows. According to AARP, nearly 90 percent of seniors want to stay in their own homes as they age; even if they begin to need day-to-day assistance or ongoing health care during retirement, most (82 percent) would still prefer to stay in their homes. Our systems have been especially useful in aging-in-place and elder health situations: case in point is the Sha Maison retirement community in Shiba, Japan, where we installed healthcare devices as security devices in every one of the community’s 700 units, as well as common areas.

Q: What can we expect from Mivatek Smart Connect in the future?

A: To begin with, we are constantly expanding our eco-system partners (currently we have over 10 that our system can integrate with, household names like Nest, Kwikset, Amazon Echo, Google Home, Apple Watch, Philips Hue, and more). We are also introducing more of our own connected devices, as well as cellular NB-IoT for mobile applications. It should also be noted that while other systems providers scramble to ensure that their offerings integrate with the oncoming 5G wireless protocol, the Mivatek Smart Connect Platform is already there.
