Below is our recent interview with Vaughn Pourchot, CEO of VTR:
Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to VTR?
A: We are a premier online business education provider, and we’ve been serving the education space for over a decade with our unique learning experiences and exceptional service.
We specialize in providing continuing education opportunities for five large organizations: accredited with NASBA for providing continuing education to Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI), the American Payroll Association (APA) and the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).
Our business education courses allow learners to make connections and broaden their understandings in a wide range of business topics as they “train” in a simulated organization. This concept is woven into every course we offer, so that each topic feels cohesive and familiar, even if the subject matter isn’t.
Q: What kinds of courses do you offer to your customers?
A: We offer all business courses found in a traditional MBA program. This is because our courses were originally developed and utilized by multiple universities for their online MBA programs. In recent years we have expanded our product catalog to include short courses such as Cost-Benefit Analysis, The Basics of Payroll, Characteristics of Effective Leadership, and many more to accommodate the continuing education market better.
Q: What are the benefits of virtual education compared to traditional learning?
A: A virtual education gives people their freedom back. Instead of being a prisoner to a set weekly schedule that requires a lengthy commute to required classes that are only offered at inconvenient times, our users get to work when they want from wherever they want. Having the luxury of getting to take a class from the comfort of your own home, local coffee shop, or even the gym allows people to be efficient with the use of their time. It’s unfortunate the amount of time that people spend commuting to and from specified locations to earn their education credits.
A Virtual education is also beneficial relative to the traditional methods in that they can be tailored to the user’s specific needs. In a traditional environment, a professor or speaker is forced to treat an entire classroom as one body. This neglects the individual needs and learning styles of the individual students. All process information differently, thus making it impossible for a single teacher to accommodate the needs of a classroom. A virtual education gives users the ability to modify the rate and amount of information they need to process. It also affords them the anonymity to ask questions without being judged by their peers.
Q: What’s the best thing about your company that people might not know about?
A: We recently released an awesome update to our services so everyone can test drive our courses for free while earning credits, on their own schedule! Yes, I know it sounds like there’s a catch, but there really isn’t. Anyone can earn continuing education credit for no cost while they see if VTR’s unique learning experiences are right for them. Every course we’re giving away is accredited with one or more organizations for continuing education credits. We felt this would be a great way to give everyone the opportunity to try our unique, fun courses to see if they like them, and earn valuable credits for their respective organizations along the way.
Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: We have a ton of exciting plans for the coming months, starting with launching audible versions of our courses to serve the visually impaired market better. We’re using actors to narrate the courses so that the words can be better brought to life and entertain the listener while teaching them the concepts of the lesson. We’re excited to get to have the opportunity to help the visually impaired as well as those who simply learn better aurally learn important business lessons in a medium that best serves them, and grow in their careers.
We will also be launching a mobile app shortly. Albeit our current mobile experience is top notch, our app will allow users to download content for plane rides or other scenarios where internet access isn’t available..
Most importantly, we’re looking forward to continuing to provide the best business education experience online to business professionals of all backgrounds and specialties, for years to come.
