Below is our recent interview with Jonaed Iqbal, the Founder & CEO at NoDegree:

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to NoDegree.com?

A: NoDegree.com is a career resource for people of all ages and backgrounds without college degrees. NoDegree.com is for everyone, from the recent high school graduate or military veteran, to those who are mid-career or retirees looking to start down a new career path. A college degree has paid off well in the past. However, times are changing and a college degree no longer gives you the same return that it once did. You used to be able to work a summer job and pay tuition. Now it takes years to pay back your student loans even with a six-figure job. NoDegree.com educates people about interesting well-paying opportunities that do not require the cost or time of a college degree, such as wardrobe stylist, baker, mechanic, computer technician, and plumber. You can search jobs, explore careers, and much more at NoDegree.com.

Q: What are the benefits of using your platform?

A: NoDegee.com is your one-stop-shop to explore career options that do not require a college degree. However, we believe that a search engine is only as powerful as the user behind it. That is why NoDegree.com informs readers about the ins and outs of every job category listed. We provide you with a description about each career, which skills are required, the certifications and licenses needed, what the salaries look like, the pros and cons of the job, and an “inside scoop” on future prospects for that career path. We also share further resources such as books and websites so you can start on your journey right away!

Q: Do you must go to college in order to land a good job and be successful?

A: No. There are many roads to success. What works for one person may not work for another. There are plenty of successful people who did not go to college. About 2/3rds of jobs in the United States do not require a college degree. Gardeners, welders, hair stylists, plumbers, cooks, electricians, salespeople, small business owners, and others have utilized their creative and practical skills to become successful. To be happy in your work you have to choose a path that is best suited for you. I would never tell someone who absolutely hated Biology and science to become a doctor. Some people are just not great in the classroom. You wouldn’t judge a doctor by his ability to fix your car’s transmission, just as you shouldn’t judge a great mechanic by his Chemistry grades in high school. Someone with an interest and passion for cars can find success in the auto industry. Some people dread sitting in a cubicle for 8+ hours a day. Telling them to go to college to choose a career that they have no interest in is a disservice to them and will hurt them in the long run.

Q: What kinds of jobs can be found on your platform? Which ones are the most popular?

A: All types of jobs can be found on my platform, for people of all ages, genders, and interests. The most popular ones at the moment are in the trades – welders, plumbers, and electricians.

Q: What’s your mission?

A: My mission is to remove the stigma that is attached to people without college degrees. Often times they are looked down upon as less intelligent or less capable. I have heard many people say, “You will have no future if you do not go to college”. That statement couldn’t be further from the truth! I have worked with many college graduates who weren’t very bright. I also know some brilliant people who do not have their bachelors. If you are a good student and want to go to college, more power to you. However, I think it is a disservice to tell someone to go to college when they have no idea what they want to do with their lives. College is meant for certain careers and you better make sure you have a plan. It is idiotic to go into debt for $40,000+ a year to figure out what you want to do. I want it to be okay for people to choose non-traditional career paths. The world would be boring (and also wouldn’t function) if everyone tried to enter the same traditional professions such as doctor or lawyer. Some people are not good in the classroom. This does not say anything about their intelligence or their abilities for different careers. You don’t judge a fish by its ability to fly. I want people to realize that there are many roads to success in life and to ignore people who tell them otherwise.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

A: Our plans for the future are to create partnerships with union businesses and other organizations that hire people without college degrees. We are focused on producing content because we want to inform and educate people about opportunities which do not require expensive college education. I want someone who has no idea about what they want to do for a living to come to my site, and leave knowing about the different and interesting traditional and non-traditional career paths available to them. I want them to find a career that they feel comfortable doing and get their first well paying job in a field they would like working in!
